Greenmount Collage

The Night prior we made it to CAFRE the university in Belfast, our contact met us at the airport and shuttled us to the campus. The dorms were dorms that young collage kids lived in, they were a little messy but the people were incredibly nice

The next day we got to do a service project. We planted four flower beds that had laid out designs on a plan. I had a lot of fun gardening, it had been a while since I had gotten my hands dirty and it was a welcome change.

After our project we got a full tour of the greenhouses. The students a CAFRE have a more practical approach to horticulture compared to MSU. This is reflected in their facilities, they had a lot of equipment and examples of horticulture materials. CAFRE doesn’t do any true research and this confuses me a little, I think it’s kind of important to do that for every university no matter how practical the knowledge.

We then got to see the golf course they have on their campus. Our tour guide was incredible, and we each got to hit a ball off the driving range.

When we got to the green, he plopped right down and started talking to us about the grass, it was awesome how much this guy cares about grass and it showed through.

I even got to see a little bit of the irrigation system, 4 rotors at 110 psi with massive flow on two zones water each hole. They don’t use DBYR though which worries me immensely.
