Wisley Gardens
Our day today began as many often do, with coffee. It still
confuses us when we go to order a coffee and our barista asks us…”You mean an Americano?”
Our Site today was Wisley garden, a horticultural marvel. Susan
said it well, I want to be buried here. Wisley is literally the most beautiful
garden I have ever gone to. We didn’t have an organized tour which was rather
nice, as we were able to wander about the gardens and enjoy the architecture of
the plants.
They had a wonderful formal English garden that showcased
the importance of designing a garden from more than one prospective. The use of
several colours and textures of bricks reflects the importance of hardscape
design.
In addition the Use of both water and hardscape features along with deep and lighter colours to make specific ornamentals pop was evident.
A rather large rainforest/desert conservatory was a splendid addition, allowing for diversity of plants that could not be grown in a temperate climate. Cheyenne got to see some cactuses, which is always a fun thing to watch. Their orchid selection in this glass house was also quite lovely.
They also had an alpine exhibit which showed how pioneer
plants exist on mountain sides and break down rocks. Many of the plants were
sharp, short, and tough. This is because they are adapted to a cold and rocky climate.
We have had the opportunity to show off our MSU pride nearly
every day. This is our classroom.
After our classroom time was over we went to the Platform 9&¾.
We waited for an hour but we got some sweet pictures out of it.
